Early diagnosis improves outcomes, but system-level patterns of pre-diagnostic care are rarely examined in ways that reveal actionable opportunities.
I co-led a retrospective cohort study examining clinical activity in general practice before sarcoma diagnosis, using linked hospital registry and primary care data. The work identified a six-month diagnostic window where GP imaging requests increased progressively before diagnosis, signaling potential opportunities for earlier detection.
The study informed national discussions on optimising investigation of bone pain and soft tissue lumps in primary care and was published in the British Journal of General Practice.
